StepLess® (Stepless) Low Profile Clamps are produced in different nominal widths and thicknesses. The material sizes used for the standard series are determined by taking into account the radial force required, the nature of application, and the requirements for sealing and / or holding in certain conditions and environmental exposure. During the selection of the clamp diameter, the
dimensions of the mating components on which the clamp will be mounted must be accurately determined to ensure an effective clamping performance . Durometer hardness of the soft material and the desired compression are important factors in calculating the appropriate clamp diameter.
When using the Tension Hook and Inner Gate
Oetiker installation tool, the diameter of the clamp is reduced until it reaches the lock position. The reduction in the clamp diameter is proportional to the closing distance.
Assembly Suggestions Using
a hand tool or a pneumatic tool designed for high volume production, locate the jaw tips inside the tension hook and the inner passage. Switching the pneumatic tool on or off the handpiece
brings the two assemblies together while simultaneously reducing the inside diameter of the clamp. To maintain this reduced diameter, the holes are pressed onto the load-holding hooks and the load applied by the tool is released so that the hooks are locked into the respective holes.
Although the StepLess® Low Profile Clamp offers a constant, accurate inner diameter after assembly, unlike StepLess® Ear Clamps 167, it does not compensate for changes in component tolerance or adapt for thermal expansion effects. The sealing pressure under the clamp depends on the compression factor set during the determination of the appropriate clamp diameter and the thermal “set” resistance of the soft material.
Reusability
stepless® Low Profile Clamps has the ability to be re-used feature. These can be removed and reassembled repeatedly – for example in the automotive industry, during maintenance and service periods. These can be mounted both axially and radially.
